The samples shown here are 50x50 pixel fragments of blue sky, taken
from various test photos, and magnified to show ISO noise. The samples
definitely show...
- a 1280x640 image shot at ISO 400 and binned by a factor of 2 down to
640x480 looks cleaner than a 640x480 image shot at ISO 200.
- a 1280x640 image shot at ISO 200 and binned by a factor of 2 down to
640x480 looks cleaner than a 640x480 image shot at ISO 100. It at
least matches, and may be better than a 640x480 image shot at ISO 80.
- a 2048x1536 image binned by 3 down to 682x512 is slightly cleaner
than a 1280x960 image taken at the same ISO and binned by 2 down to
640x480.
